Track 20: Dental Therapy and Treatment

Dental therapy is a relatively new field. A dental therapist is a licensed oral care professional who works in conjunction with a dental care team, providing clinical and therapeutic care. These oral care professionals typically work with uninsured, low-income and underserved populations to help them get necessary dental care.

Their duties include examination and routine dental treatment and prevention work, such as fillings, fissure sealants, and extractions of first teeth. Duties may also include giving local anesthetic and taking X-rays. Therapists also advise patients and their parents how to care for the patient's mouth.
